What is core power yoga you may ask? Well it is the practice of a particular style of yoga that focusses upon the core/middle part of our body - the area where power is generated. I am not surprised at the popularity of core power yoga amongst its practitioners, as the yoga moves it incorporates strengthens our abdominal muscles which in turn greatly improves our posture. This will without doubt have you looking fit, toned and confident for walking down the beach this summer.
It is a particularly intense form of yoga for many people as it is performed far more vigorously than other forms of yoga, plus it is practiced in a heated environment. To be honest, practising yoga in this environment, and with so much rigor can actually leave many would be practitioners daunted at the task facing them. It is advisable, therefore, to have a reasonably good level of fitness before you start your yoga exercises in the core power yoga form.
People who perform core power yoga moves on a regular basis find the combination of strength and flexibility that it offers helps to raise their fitness level beyond that which they could achieve using other forms of exercise. Whilst getting fitter they are also drastically reducing your stress levels. With the reduction of stress comes an increase in being able to focus in everything you do. Focusing is actually a training principle of power yoga.
There is a version of yoga called Ashtanga, which gives the basic principles for core power yoga.
By strengthening the core area of the body, particularly in the lower back and the abdominal muscle wall, it is extremely beneficial for many different sports as this core area is the area of central strength in the body that is required for almost every type of physical activity. Building strength in this area promotes increased support and strength to the back region, which reduces a lot of back/spinal injuries which are common in some form to most of us.
By performing the yoga moves of this system in a heated environment it will help to eliminate toxins from within your body in the form of a fast build up a sweat. While the poses are generally only held for a very short time, a sequence of one after the other also helps to increase your physical endurance.
